About us

Rooted in a home kitchen. Grown for community.

Our roots trace back to a passionate home kitchen, where friends and family gathered around nutrient-rich meals, lively conversation, and a shared love for real, nourishing food.

Who we are

About Good Food Community Kitchen

Good Food Community Kitchen is a nonprofit educational kitchen focused on teaching practical food skills and food literacy.

We offer hands-on classes, demonstrations, and community learning experiences centered on traditional, whole-food cooking and a deeper understanding of where food comes from and how it affects human health.

Our goal is to make real, nourishing food more accessible by equipping individuals and families with the knowledge and confidence to prepare it themselves. We believe that food education — rooted in both ancestral wisdom and modern science — is foundational to resilient health and strong communities.

Why we cook, teach, and gather.

Mission

Good Food Community Kitchen restores vitality to body and spirit through education, nourishment, and community, teaching the time-honored ways of preparing truly nourishing food.

Vision

We envision communities where people are equipped to prepare nourishing food for themselves and others, understand the systems that shape what they eat, and pass essential food knowledge across generations.

A future where kitchens are places of learning, competence, and care, and where food education is recognized as foundational to health.

We believe quality of ingredients and how they are prepared matters. Our work is guided by:

  • Traditional food knowledge informed by modern science
  • Practical skills that support self-sufficiency
  • Transparency, integrity, and respect for food
  • Learning environments that are warm, welcoming, and grounded in real practice

Our programs

What Good Food Community provides

01

Practical Food Skills

We teach hands-on cooking skills that people can use immediately at home.

This includes foundational techniques such as preparing whole ingredients, cooking from scratch, working with traditional fats, fermenting foods, and building simple, nourishing meals without relying on ultra-processed products.

02

Food Literacy & Nutrition Understanding

Participants learn how food affects the body, how to read ingredients and labels, and how modern food systems influence health.

We focus on clarity over dogma; helping people understand why certain foods nourish and others deplete, so they can make informed decisions in their lives.

03

Traditional Food Knowledge

Good Food preserves and teaches time-tested food practices that have supported human health across cultures and generations.

This includes traditional preparation methods, ancestral dietary patterns, and the cultural context of food, presented in a practical, accessible way.

04

Access to Real Ingredients

We emphasize cooking with whole, nutrient-dense ingredients and understanding where food comes from.

Participants gain familiarity with sourcing, seasonality, and ingredient quality so they can better navigate grocery stores, farmers markets, and local food systems.

05

Community Learning & Skill-Sharing

Good Food is a shared learning environment where people cook, learn, and ask questions together.

Classes and gatherings are designed to foster skill-sharing, confidence, and connection without pressure, perfectionism, or performance.

06

Lifelong Capacity, Not Dependency

Our goal is not to provide meals, but to build lasting capacity.

We aim to equip individuals and families with skills and understanding that reduce reliance on packaged foods, trends, or external experts over time.

07

Community Meal Support

We facilitate supervised meal preparation, and in partnership with local groups we also engage in food donation efforts that provide nourishing meals to people in need. These programs prioritize food safety, quality ingredients, and skill-building alongside direct community support.

Portrait of Jesse Curtis

Jesse Curtis

Co-Founder, Business Manager

At twenty, I was running on empty: exhausted, unwell, and lost. I’d tried every diet the books promised would save me, and each one left me worse.

Then I found the wisdom of traditional food: real ingredients, prepared the way our ancestors did, without the industrial oils and sugar that fill so much of what we eat today. Slowly, meal by meal, my health came back.

That recovery gave me a purpose: to share what I learned so others can find their way sooner. Selina and I opened Good Food Community Kitchen to be that place, where food is nourishing, delicious, and made with care, and where everyone can learn to eat in a way that truly sustains them.

Selina Rai

Co-Founder, Culinary Lead

I am Selina Rai, a Nutrition Therapist, Natural Nutrition Chef, BCHN®, and Holistic Lifestyle Educator devoted to nourishment as a sacred, relational act. I was born and raised in Nepal, a Himalayan country, where I grew up deeply connected to the land—eating local foods, harvesting fresh vegetables and fruits, and learning the language of food through taste, smell, and presence.

From an early age, I spent time both in the kitchen and in the earth—digging produce from the soil, observing the elders in my family, and learning from my grandmother, mother, and aunties. The aromas of home-cooked meals, the slow simmer of pots, teas brewed throughout the day, and the quiet rhythms of ancestral cooking shaped my understanding of nourishment as care, memory, ceremony, and community.

Today, I bridge ancestral wisdom with modern nutritional science, with a focus on gut health, hormone balance, fasting, and mindfulness. My work weaves in ceremonial cacao and herbal teas, honoring plants as gentle teachers and allies for presence, balance, connection, and intentional nourishment. Through this nonprofit vision, we are creating spaces for nourishment, learning, and community building—spaces that cultivate resilience, embodied well-being, and reconnection to food, self, and one another. I serve individuals, communities, and fellow healers locally and internationally, offering food and ritual as pathways toward balance, dignity, and belonging.
